Lafitte, La.
Just as the Horizon leak has been capped, we now have another
leak to deal with.
An abandoned well in Bayou St. Denis, near Barataria Bay, was hit
by a tow boat around 1 O'clock Tuesday morning. The leak, which is
spraying 100 feet into the air is releasing approximately 30 barrels
a day into the waters.
The well was supposed to be capped within 48 hours. That
time has now been pushed back to as much as another 10 days. Waters
are closed for 2 miles surrounding the leak. Another set back for
local fishermen.
One major concern will be weather or not oil from the Horizon
leak will be blamed on this leak, by BP.
Containment boom, which was already near by due to the Horizon
leak is being deployed. The oil sheen now covers as much as six
square miles. |
