General Discussion / Yankee Pond

When this project first started, I thought they were going to completely fill it. It appears that they made a series of small canals within the pond. Maybe it will turn out to be a good thing in a few years, assuming it won't be too shallow.

Boat Registration Increase To Begin In 2019

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Licensing Section advises all Louisiana boat owners that beginning January 1, 2019, motorboat registration will increase by $9 for each boating length category.  Motorboat registration is valid for a three-year period. Below is a table showing the fee increases by boat length

The additional fees are a result of Act 698 of the 2018 Regular Legislative Session and will be dedicated to LDWF’s Aquatic Plant Control Fund and will be used to fight aquatic plants and invasive aquatic species across the state.

For additional information, please contact LDWF’s Licensing Section at 225-765-2898 or visit our website at www.wlf.la.gov .

I suppose I just forgot where Buras and Venice are located.

Plaquemines Parish has passed an ordinance that will require sportsmen to pay up to hunt on parish owned land outside levees. Ordinance 18-41, sponsored by Councilman Jeff Edgecombe and passed unanimously on April 26 will put in place, an annual fee that will cost $50 for parish residents and $250 for non-residents.

I doubt there are enough residents in the parish to sustain all the taxes from outdoor sports related activities if we 'outsiders' stop going down there.

First it was the land owners screwing us out of our navigable waters, now it's our local government putting the screws to us on outdoor recreation period.

Posting this one a little late.

Went out last Saturday to the old dump canals. Only fished about an hour but managed to pull in about 25 perch and three catfish.

Water has been really muddy everywhere due to the Yankee Pind work that’s going on. Was able to find clean water at the very ends of the canals.

Water access / My email to all State Reps. following failure of HB 391
« Last post by WestwegoMan on Apr 17, 2018, 7:16 PM »
Well, well. All I can say is WOW!

I would first like to thank all of you who voted in favor of HB 391. You are truly a blessing to the Sportsman's Paradise.

To those of you who voted against it, you must truly want us to continue to be called "Posted Paradise."

Many of you do not know me. As a matter of fact, most of you don't. Very few of you actually do. The few that actually do probably already know my passion for the outdoors. I would truly have to say that today is a big black eye to our beloved state. Excuse me while I rant here but, how can any of you who voted against HB 391 expect us sportsmen to feel like those of you who were in opposition of this bill do not have your hands in the back pockets of big money land owners? For way too many years, I have been watching our coastal areas become off limits due to land owners gating off bayous. How can any of you honestly think it's ok to do the things that are being done?

Even after all that Rep. Pearson put into this bill to protect the land owners, you still voted against it. I personally do not think there would have been anything that would have swayed your vote. Just one more action that leads us to truly believe some of you have your hands in the back pockets of the big money land owners.

All one in their right mind has to do is look at the photos below that I took south of Westwego some 10 years ago. After doing so, they would know something is wrong. Honestly tell me, do you think this is right? I don't expect an answer. I'm sure most of you who oppose this bill have much better things to do with your time rather than bother with returning an email to me, like go celebrate with the land owners tonight.

Hope you can sleep well tonight knowing you wronged the sportsmen of Louisiana!
