Westwego trip 4-23-14

Started out the evening slow. Fished for 2 hours landing one bass with another missed. The first bass looked like he had an unfortunate encounter with a propeller or something. He had a couple of gouges in his head.

After little success, I moved to the dump canals and around 7pm they turned on. Started slamming them on a top water buzz bait. The first one hit it like he was something. He made so much noise and busted up the water so much right after I set the hook that I was kind of disappointed to see he was only about 8" long. ;D

Next cast towards a cypress stump and it was on. Wound up catching 13 bass total today. The one right before dark went at least 4 lbs. I only wish I had been fishing a tournament with the way they were biting. Of course, I would have probably been late for weigh in. [smiley=banghead.gif]

Wish I had somebody with me to video. Gonna have to make an investment soon. ;)

Good report.  I love catching on a buzz bait.  Haven't fished that area in a long while.  I used to love fishing out of Bayou Signette.  As I remember I'd go out of the lauch and fish the pipeline canals.  That was a long time ago.  I'd also run over the the Jean Lafitte area and fish.  That was back in the early 90's though.

Yup. That's the exact area that I was fishing. We locals call it the dump canals because back in the day, when the City of Westwego had its own dump, that's where it was located, just north of these canals.

The Jean Lafitte area is still good. I'll be doing a lot of perch jerking in that area next week.
