L.D.W.F. accepting title
registration for boats.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF)
is accepting applications for boat titles effective Aug. 25, 2009.
The new service provided by the agency is for boat owners wishing to
acquire official proof of ownership. Anyone may title a boat that is not
documented by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Starting Aug. 25, 2009 anyone required to register a new or previously
owned boat valued at $2,500 or greater, which will be financed through a
lending institution, is required to obtain a title.
All motorized vessels and sailboats 12 foot in length and larger which
have been in Louisiana waters for a period of 90 days or longer and used
for recreational purposes, including those registered with the U.S.
Coast Guard, MUST be registered in Louisiana.
Titling a vessel is optional for persons who already own their boat and
have already registered the vessel in Louisiana prior to Aug. 25, 2009
or those who are purchasing a previously-owned boat that is already
registered in Louisiana.
The certificate of title costs $26 and can be obtained by mailing in an
application form or applying in person at the LDWF office located at
2000 Quail Drive, Baton Rouge 70808.
